Job Description:

Sync Computing is searching for a full-time algorithm engineer located in Boston, MA. Full remote position is also available.

As an algorithm engineer, you will be part of a growing interdisciplinary team and will work closely with other top-tier engineers to build, test, and deploy cutting-edge optimization algorithms for distributed software packages. We are looking for someone who loves diving into code, learning new algorithms, and accelerating optimization algorithms. The responsibilities of the position include:


  • Develop, research, and build custom optimization algorithms
  • Benchmark existing optimization algorithms
  • Integrate optimization solutions into cloud infrastructure platforms
  • Adhere to code documentation and best practices.
  • Collaborate across engineering, product, and leadership to iterate and improve our core products.


  • 3+ years of experience building and using mathematical optimization
  • PhD in mathematics, optimization, engineering, operations research, or physics is preferred, but not required
  • Strong familiarity with mathematical optimization frameworks (e.g. simplex method, boolean satisfiability problems, simulated annealing, genetic algorithms, gradient descent)
  • Strong research background, capable of being self motivated and driven
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills, a strong desire to learn, be self-directed, and be motivated to work in a fast paced start-up environment.
