Job Description:

Sync Computing is searching for a full-time distributed systems high performance computing (HPC) research engineer located in the United States. Full remote work is acceptable.

As a HPC engineer, you will be part of a growing interdisciplinary team and will work closely with other top-tier engineers from MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, Intel, and IBM to build, test, and deploy cutting-edge distributed software packages. We are looking for someone who loves diving into code, investigating computing optimization, and truly understanding the guts of how large-scale computing works. The responsibilities and qualifications of the position include:

Responsibilities

  1. Research big data / ML cloud infrastructure optimization (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)
  2. Optimize distributed computing applications (e.g. Spark, Pytorch, HPC applications)
  3. Optimize low level computing (e.g. CPU, memory, I/O, storage)
  4. Analyze customer use and contribute to Sync’s core product
  5. Collaborate and communicate with a highly technical team

Qualifications

  1. Experience with and optimizing distributed computing systems (e.g. HPC simulations, Spark, Hadoop)
  2. Strong interest and willingness to learn big data / ML cloud infrastructure
  3. Strong research background, capable of self-designing experiments and aligning goals
  4. PhD in high performance computing related area preferred, but not required

Qualifications:

A technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, applied math, physics, or related fields is required, with a B.S., M.S. or PhD degree. The candidate must be familiar with basic programming languages (e.g. Python) and Linux operating systems. Experience with AWS and Apache Spark is preferred. Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills, a strong desire to learn, be self-directed, and be motivated to work in a fast paced start-up environment.
